Bible verses for job loss
Losing work takes two things at once: the income and the answer to what do you do. The passages here speak to both, and none of them promises a new job by a particular date.
What they do is place provision somewhere other than your employer, which is the shift that makes the waiting survivable.
None of this is a reason to stop applying, and none of it makes the spreadsheet add up. It is for the hours either side of the applying, which are usually the harder part and the part nobody asks about.
Psalm 37 : 25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
An old man’s testimony rather than a guarantee about your career. He is not saying nothing went wrong; he is saying he watched for a lifetime and provision kept arriving.
Proverbs 16 : 9
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
Planning is assumed, not criticised. The verse simply notes that the route often differs from the plan, which is a kinder reading of a lost job than most.
Matthew 6 : 26
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
An argument from observation: look at what is already being fed. It is aimed squarely at the 3am arithmetic that follows a redundancy.
Philippians 4 : 19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Need, not want, and the distinction is doing real work. Written by a man who had just thanked a church for money, so it is not naive about either.
Psalm 46 : 1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Very present is the phrase to sit with. Not distant, not eventual: available in the trouble itself, while it is still going on.
Scripture is the King James Version, checked against a copy held on our own server. Balmody is not a medical or mental health service.
