The short version

We use no cookies, no analytics services, and no third-party trackers. There are no advertising pixels, no session recording, and no social media embeds. Nothing on this site follows you anywhere.

We do count how many requests our server answers each day, and whether they came from the website or from one of the apps. That is a running total and nothing else: no IP addresses, no identifiers, and nothing you wrote. It cannot tell one person from another, or tell that the same person came back.

We do not store what you write. Your words are held in memory only for the few seconds it takes to answer, and are never written to a database, a log file, or a disk. We keep no account, no history, and no record that your visit happened.

There are no accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to delete.

What happens to what you write

When you ask for guidance, the text you wrote is sent to our server, which passes it to a third-party service to help choose passages. The response comes back, the passages are checked against a local copy of the Bible, and the result is returned to you. At that point your text is gone from our systems.

We do not write it to a database. We do not keep it in a log. We cannot retrieve it later, and neither can we produce it if asked to.

Who else sees it

To generate a response we send your text to Google (Gemini) and, if Google is unavailable, to Anthropic (Claude). These providers process it under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not send them your name, your address, or anything else identifying, because we do not have it.

We use no other third parties. No advertising networks, no analytics vendors, and no data brokers receive anything. The daily counts described above stay on our own server and are shared with no one.

What is stored on your device

Anything you choose to save is stored on your own device only, using your browser or app storage. It never reaches our servers. Clearing your browser data or reinstalling the app deletes it, and we cannot recover it for you because we never had it.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records basic technical information for every request, such as the time, the response status, and the network address it came from. This is standard for any website and is used to keep the service running and to limit abuse. It does not include what you wrote.

Children

Balmody is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, there is nothing for us to delete.

How long anything is kept

What you write is kept for the duration of the request and no longer. Technical logs held by our hosting provider are retained on their standard schedule and are used only to keep the service running and to limit abuse.

Where it is processed

Our servers and the third-party services we use operate internationally, so your request may be processed outside the country you are in, including in the United States. Because we send no identifying information and keep nothing, there is no profile that crosses a border with it.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit, and our provider keys are held server-side and never appear in the app you download or the page you load. The strongest protection we offer is structural rather than technical: there is no store of personal information to breach, because we do not create one.

No service can promise perfect security, and we do not.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If we ever begin collecting something we do not collect today, we will say so here plainly rather than by quietly broadening the wording.

Your rights

Privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal information a business holds about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We hold no personal information about you, we sell nothing, and we share nothing for advertising. There is no profile to access, correct, or delete, and no sale to opt out of.
